Guide to Europe  >> Switzerland
Switzerland

Few countries can offer the beautiful landscape of the Swiss Alps, incredible religious history, picturesque towns and variety of winter sports that Switzerland claims.  In its capital city, Zurich, travelers can visit the beautiful abbey from the city’s creation; Geneva, the center of the Protestant Reformation and pulpit of John Calvin, also offers beautiful gardens.  Interlaken, a winter and extreme sports enthusiast’s paradise, not only provides some of the best skiing in Europe, but offers a variety of extreme sports like canyoning, paragliding and sky diving.

Because of Switzerland’s position of neutrality (which it was even able to maintain during World War II), the country hosts a large number of international institutions, with the United Nations in Geneva, even though they only joined the organization in 2002.  The international appeal, combined with the beautiful mountains of the Swiss Alps and intertwining lakes makes Switzerland a wonderful resort for young travelers.
